"One of the things I will talk about that no president has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country, the whole sexual libertine idea... It's not okay because it's a license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. They're supposed to be within marriage, for purposes that are, yes, conjugal... but also procreative."

Remember 1996?
Bill Clinton was whooped soundly in the 1994 congressional elections by Newt and "The Contract with America." He had raised taxes and the economy was pretty flat (although growing rather anemically).
Sound familiar?
Want more? Much like 2012, the GOP presidential field was considered "weak." There was Dole, the eventual winner, Pat Buchanan, and Steve Forbes. No wonder Dole won the primary. And no wonder he got slaughtered by Clinton in the general election!

I am a true believer in the American political process; not because it's perfect, but simply because I have yet to find an alternative that works anywhere near as well.
That said, it has its downside and when it comes campaign rhetoric, we often see our dear system at it worst.
I don't like negative campaign ads; particularly those that "stretch the truth" or take facts out of context to disparage an opponent. The good news about negative campaign ads is that public has become pretty astute at deciphering the truth and voting accordingly.
But to me, nothing makes the US Electoral process look worse than politicians who campaign on elusive "feel good" talking points that don't actually describe what they plan to do if elected.
I'm talking about "Hope and Change" and Obama's newest "bumper sticker" talking point about "fairness". And what really grates me is all the stupid voters who fall for this crap.
