Who Stole My Career?

Surviving The Assault on Private Sector Careers in America.

The Future of America? As the once great Grecian Empire averts one more economic meltdown, there are a number of very valuable lessons that might prevent the United States from suffering the same fate.

1. The  “Socialist Democrat” economic model is a Ponzi Scheme that will ultimately collapse just like Greece has: It’s simply not possible to sustain an economy where one third of the population works for the government, the majority of workers belong to a labor union, and everyone receives generous entitlements that far exceed what they pay in taxes.

Although the US has been trending in this direction for decades, it is a matter of fact that since Obama became president we’ve moved toward Greece at hyper speed; consider these doomsday statistics:

  • In 2010, 46.4% of American paid no income tax.
  • America's wealthiest 25 percent pay 86 percent of total income taxes.
  • The wealthiest 5 percent pay 60 percent of total income taxes.
  • The amount of unfunded entitlements owed by the U.S. government has reached a record $61.6 trillion, which comes out to $534,000 per U.S. household
  • In just the last ten years, the American Public’s dependence on money from the Government has grown a staggering 49%!

Clueless?"As savvy investors and entrepreneurs search for ways to minimize the impact of the U.S. tax system, with its relatively high rates and global reach, they are increasingly incorporating overseas, tax experts say.

Some private-equity firms have relocated U.S. companies or divisions to tax-haven countries. U.S. multinational companies have spun off foreign subsidiaries in tax havens. U.S. start-ups are even beginning life offshore."

The consequences of Obama's anti-business policies are coming "home to roost" as American corporations are beginning to incorporate outside of the United States.

Lower-Tax Shores Draw U.S. Firms

Yesterday, I wrote about 8 specific anti-business actions that Obama has taken since becoming president. Following that story, a reader in Southern California suggested that I look into the story of Freescale Semiconductor and I discover yet another corner of the economy that Obama is destroying.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a story about an emerging tragedy -- the demise of career opportunities for our best and brightest young people --  those who graduated after 2007 (and counting).

The story -- Economic Tragedy: A Generation of Lost Careers? details all the once thriving job markets that have vanished in "the land of Hope and Change," and lamented the fact that once a young graduate strikes out at the career associated with their college degree, their income prospects (and taxpaying potential) decline precipitously.

I can hear all the liberals chanting "it's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault," but no matter how much blame he bears (or not), every day that passes increases Obama's responsibility for the current American "Great Recession."

The Final Days of California?"Why can't we just give the employee a chair rather than filing a lawsuit, battling bad lawsuits loses good jobs."

Tom Scott,
California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse.

One of the left's favorite boogie men are the Big Box Chain Stores like Walmart. Even though they provide low income citizens with good low cost products, employee millions of Americans, pay well including healthcare benefits.

Unlike Obama's favorite multinational -- GE, which pays zero federal income taxes, Walmart paid over 32% of their income in taxes; in fact they paid over $7 billion last year!

According to the Seattle Times:

Nearly every national chain is under legal attack in California for failing to provide "suitable seating" for cashiers and other employees who are expected to spend most of their work day on their feet.

Enterprising trial attorneys by the dozen are using an obscure California labor law requiring retailers such as such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Target to have enough seats on hand for their workers.

The Next President of The United States?"One thing both sides agree on is Rick Perry is running for President — no matter what he and those in his inner circle say."

TIME Magazine June 18, 2011

My mother is from West Texas and thus I grew up with a heavy dose of Texas Grit. Politically, I thought both the Bush's were a tad liberal, but as men, I truly admire both of these ex-Presidents from Texas.

As we look toward the final republican field for the 2012 Presidential Election, there appears to be one more "big fish" jumping into the pond -- Texas Governor Rick Perry.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Romney's emergence as both the republican frontrunner and the man who can beat Barrack Obama in the next election (see: "Romney Leads Obama by 3 Points!")

All that could change in a matter of days if the pundits are correct and Rick Perry throws his hat in the ring.

Every year another 4.2 million babies are born in this country. Some come from well-to-do families, but many more come from homes struggling to get by, babies who would never get a decent education if their families had to pay for it themselves.

One of the greatest things about America is that each of these babies is born with an incredible "grant" just for being born in this country; everyone of these babies gets 13 years of public education for free.

A $136,487 Gift

According to the US Census Bureau, America spends $10,499/student/year. That means that a K-12 education is worth $136,487 over the lifetime of each of these babies and given our highly progressive tax scheme, more of these baby's families get this for free than pay for it in taxes.

The next time you see school teachers rioting in the public square about education funding -- keep this in mind.

Half Moon Bay, CaliforniaAs Scott Walker's bold move to empower Wisconsin municipalities to deal with fat government worker union contracts drags though the courts, and Jerry Brown and the democrat legislature plead with republicans to raise taxes in California, a hand full of Golden State cities have come up with a very creative way to deal with their budget crisis.

The beautiful little coastal town of Half Moon bay has dumped it's fat public union contracts by outsourcing their police, public works, building department, parks and recreation department, and other services to lower cost providers. In fact, the city has slashed it's full time headcount by 75% over the last ten years.

This morning I was telling a friend of mine my latest idea to save America --  it's actually quite simple.

Anyone who receives more money or benefits from the government, than they pay in taxes, should not be allowed to vote.

Think about it, isn't it a conflict of interest for government workers to elect their boss; the one who will be setting their wages and benefits?

What about the 51% of Americans who don't pay income taxes and/or receive more from the government than they pay in taxes? When you have democrats running on a single message "vote for me and I'll give you more free stuff", isn't a vote by a recipient (dependent) of those government hand-outs a clear conflict of interest?

Is Starbucks the Best Career Left in America?A few nights ago I was at a cocktail party and a friend who I hadn't talked to in years asked how my Radio Show and Career Counseling business was going. Knowing nothing about this fellow's politics, I choose my next words carefully.

"You can't counsel people on developing careers when the government is doing everything in their power to destroy them." I replied and watched for a response.

Although the party was at the home of a notorious liberal who has a winter home in the "People's Republic of Cambridge," my friend responded instantly as a kindred spirit who was sick to death over the current administrations assault on the private sector.

It is very difficult to unseat a standing president. The last time it happened, Bill Clinton did it over George H.W. Bush with a mere 43% of the vote thanks to Ross Perot, who pulled 17% of the fiscal conservatives away from Bush.

Before that, it was Jimmy "Crack Corn" Carter, who presided over both an economic meltdown and the most disgraceful exhibition of failed national defense leadership when the Iranian Hostage Crisis dragged on for 444 days while Carter just stood by and watched.

So, as bad as things have been going for Obama of late, the political truth is that he should be a shoe-in for reelection.

But Obama's Losing!

The very left leaning Washington Post and ABC News just completed a poll that shows that Mitt Romney is actually leading Obama by 3 points among registered voters.

The Frightening Tale of Obama’s Peeps

“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” Benjamin Franklin I don’t know about you, but the recent “bump” in Obama’s approval numbers are starting to depress me. Can’t people see that he’s killing the economy, stifling business expansion with taxes and regulations, and fueling the kind of class warfare that tears nations apart? The thing is, if you study the numbers, it’s not surprising at all. Our nation is now h [ ... ]
