Who Stole Their Education?"The American Jobs Act is a win-win for the American people. Congress can choose to put students ahead of political gridlock by supporting a bill that puts Americans back to work, modernizes our schools, and puts educators in classrooms instead of on the unemployment lines."
Dennis Van Roekel
President

As Obama waxes on about how a few short term tax credits will create jobs while pitching the so-called Buffet Rule (which is nothing more than a massive tax increase on the private capital that built this country), unemployment soars and America slips as a world economic power.
Perhaps the silliest response to America’s ongoing job losses is the democrat rally cry to spend more on Education. It’s silly for two reasons. First, any dope can see that the lag time between education and job creation is measured in decades, not months.
The other reason this claim is silly is because we have been pouring money into education for decades and we have nothing to show for it.
Take a look at this chart from the Department of Education:

Imagine that, we have increased funding for education 250% in constant dollars over the last 4 decades and the left says we need to spend more – give me a break!
It’s a well-known fact that innovation creates new the industries that fuel economic growth. And the best way to fuel innovation over the long run is to have a strong national math and science education program.
In fact, the United States did exactly that 60 years ago. Following WWII, many returning vets used the GI Bill to earn degrees in engineering and science. This provided workers with the skills private sector businesses need to innovate and lead the global economy.
How are we doing today?
In a word – poor:

The US has slid to 17th in science and a pathetic 25th in math, tied with “math powerhouse” Greece!
The truth is, it’s actually worse when we look at college and how the US ranks among competing nations in terms of college education:

Source: OECD 9/12/2011
Korea is graduating 50% more young people from college than we are!
As the title suggests, the money we’re pouring into the public education black hole didn’t just vanish; it was laundered through the major Teacher Unions and “kicked back” to the democrats who have been pushing for increased education spending for decades.
Here are two charts from opensecret.org that reveal where our public education dollars go:
The National Education Association Political Donations
American Federation of Teachers Political Donations
Although there are hundreds of teachers unions across the country, these are the heavyweights, dumping a whopping $67,000,000 in political donations in recent years.
As staggering as that number is, perhaps more shocking is the fact that 98% of these political kick-backs have gone to democrats in the last few major elections.
The time has come to shut down the public education system in America and give parents vouchers to spend in private schools. It’s time to outlaw public sector unions and most importantly, ban political donations that go from unions to the politicians who negotiate their contracts!
To do less is to invite the end of America.
